“Make a lampstand of pure gold. Hammer out its base and shaft, and make its flowerlike cups, buds and blossoms of one piece with them. Six branches are to extend from the sides of the lampstand—three on one side and three on the other. – Exodus 25:31-32
Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place. – Revelation 2:5
In Exodus, we read the instructions given to Moses to create the first lampstand, or menorah. This lampstand was to remain lit at all times and represented God’s presence and His everlasting light. In the passage in Revelation, the lampstand again refers to God’s presence. Here God is saying that if we do not repent and remain faithful in keeping all His commandments, His presence will depart from us.
May this sacred symbol serve as a reminder to continually walk humbly with the Lord, keeping all His commandments, and may it also remind us that His light will never go out!
