He was the guardian to Hadassah, that is Esther, his uncle’s daughter, for she had no father or mother. Now the young woman was beautiful of form and face, and when her father and her mother died, Mordecai took her as his own daughter. – Esther 2:7
I will put in the desert the cedar and the acacia, the myrtle and the olive. I will set junipers in the wasteland, the fir and the cypress together, so that people may see and know, may consider and understand, that the hand of the Lord has done this, that the Holy One of Israel has created it. – Isaiah 41:19
The Hadassah, or myrtle, tree’s leaves remain green year-round. It is strong, sprouting back to even greater fullness after it has been cut down or burned. Isaiah 41:19 describes myrtle trees in the desert as evidence of the Lord’s great power. In the same way, we see the power of God in the story of Esther. Esther’s Hebrew name was Hadassah. She was strong, and resilient, just like the myrtle tree, and, when God called her to save her people, the Hebrews, she stepped into that calling.
May this magnificent tree remind us that we too, just as Esther was, were created “for such a time as this” [Esther 4:14]. We are called out by God for greatness, to fulfill His plans and purposes in the earth until Jesus returns. So, stand tall, put on the “full armor of God” [Ephesians 6:11-13] and walk into your calling!
